The Pizza Isle (SMM2)

The following post is a series of levels I made in Super Mario Maker 2. The theme is (very) loosely based on Vinesauce references during the Super Mario World Randomizer streams. Mainly, all levels are made with Super Mario World, and the first and last levels are named after levels generated by the SMW Randomizer. I came up with some simple lore to tie it all together.

Super Mario World: The Pizza Isle

Course 1 - Pepperoni Secret

The Mario brothers discover a secret cavern at the bottom of the ocean. Perhaps it leads to this land of legend.

Course 2 - Crusty Beach

The brothers emerge from the ocean and find themselves on the beach of a new island. Treacherous and steep cliffs surround the isle like the crust of a pizza. The beach is littered with old fortifications detering all explorers. Drybone guards are still on duty, and cannons still fire upon trespassers. Yet, this won’t stop Mario from finding out what this Pizza Isle hides!

Course 3 - Mozzarella Heights

After scaling the crust of the Pizza Isle, the Mario brothers find themselves atop one of many mountains of mozzarella. Through the clouds are seen rivers of molten marinara erupting from the cheese. The rivers all pool into the center of the isle where a dark cloud looms and mystery hides. The brothers hop across the mountain tops and clouds to get closer to the heart.

Course 4 - Greasy Slide

Mario and Luigi reach the edge of the mountain range and find a large river flowing directly to the center, and there is only one way to get down. The slopes become increasingly greasy, and the brothers slip and slide down into the sauce.

Course 5 - Marinara River

Night falls on the Mario brothers’ expedition. They trek carefully over the molten river and avoid spicy demise. As they get closer to the center, they find a terrifying fortress. The river flows through gates and fortifications, but the brothers can think fast and find ways around the barriers. Pipes lead inside the fort where the sauce is cooler and the brothers can swim beneath the blockades. After sinking a few cannons and blowing holes in the walls, they finally find themselves inside the ominous castle.

Course 6 - Calzone Dungeon

The brothers run through a maze of looping rooms and find a very tall ladder leading up the dungeon’s tower. Mario and Luigi reach the top chamber and find Boom Boom! The mad lad had been hiding in the fortress after Bowser was defeated, and he plans to attack Dinosaur Land himself! Boom Boom traps the brothers inside a complex machine, but they find a way to break out! The machine crumbles and Boom Boom falls into the lava! The fortress of the lost Pizza Isle is abandoned once again and Dinosaur Land remains safe thanks to the Mario Bros.
