MQII Complete Soundtrack (And Other Tangents)

Posted on 29 June 2023

After the release of Messiah Quest II, I began publishing the soundtrack to my youtube channel. All 38 tracks are now available to listen to in the following playlist.

Messiah Quest II OST

I often think the most enjoyable part of MQII is the music. If people can’t get into the game itself, they can at least still hear the songs.

Since I’ve tried to analyze the site traffic, I’ve seen no conversions for people downloading the Messiah Quest games. This is understandable, because it’s extremely difficult to trust a downloadable executable. I know I wouldn’t. So I’ve been pondering various outlets as well as trying to sign my programs. If you are a repeat visitor and astute enough, you may have noticed I finally signed my own website! This site is now using HTTPS rather than HTTP. (Can’t wait for me to forget to renew my certificate and this post to age poorly!) Essentially, I finally figured out how to do it for free, because it’s rude to charge so much for basic security. And so I’m inspired to seek out a cheap or free way to obtain certificates for applications.

Of course I’ve been busy with work (and getting a new job in a field I studied for), so this process of proper distribution of my games isn’t happening immediately. But I feel I need to figure something out before releasing the next game. And because this site is not the premium platform for distribution, I will look into places like itch.io for more trustworthy releases. I set up an account years ago, and my page just leads here featuring a 4D Exploration Labs Scientist.

Huge tangent: I’ve mentioned a new job and analytics because I’m now a professional web developer. All the various things I’ve learned have been forming ideas to improve my own projects (the whole reason I got an SSL certificate is because the topic randomly appeared while researching tech issues for work). While working I’ve schooled myself on various web technologies, such as PHP and relearning JavaScript. If you happen to view the code on this site, you can find JavaScript using the best practices of nearly 10 years ago. I probably won’t bother updating this site in that regard, but it still might help me in the future.

Anyways, check out my youtube channel for all my game music! If you’re already subscribed and sick of nothing but Messiah Quest II for the last two months, all tracks are published and I plan to release a song for Spatial Dimension 4 next!

Final note: some of the songs on youtube loop better than in-game due to a little editing magic. I never nailed down how to make Windows Forms loop music perfectly.

Final final note: be on the lookout for the next game in the library: Messiah Quest 3 (real (no japes (& Knuckles)))!
