2019 Part 1

Posted on 28 July 2019

It has been too long since the last update to the site. Here is just a quick update about what has happened in the first half of 2019. Between March and April I had to move and adjust to a new development environment. It took some time and I stopped working on the new project, but I for a moment in April I was able to be productive elsewhere.

I started a very small project as I was getting acclimated to my new living situation. I mentioned before that I follow the Vinesauce community, and when I have difficulty working on my own projects, I will sometimes make fan art. One of my latest pieces was a short animation for a stream intro. There are a lot of things required to make an animation that I don’t have, so I made it the only way I know how: programming. I used the same techniques I use for Messiah Quest II. In fact, I put all the source files on GitHub. To make the whole project valid, the animation was used during a stream in June! Here is a clip on Twitch of the stream intro. I started HFxCS as a creative outlet so I could work on something other than my serious projects, but it was still too large for a simple throw-away game. This animation, however, was perfect! I finished the project in a week or two, and it motivated me to return to Messiah Quest II.

So the main reason I stopped working on HFxCS is because I resumed development on MQII. I didn’t need it anymore. I will leave it on this site in the likely chance I come back to it, but there is a possibility it may disappear. Anyway, during May I made a bunch of progress on Messiah Quest II, and I believe I have just two more levels to develop. Sadly, I haven’t touched the project since May or June, but I do have another creative outlet.

Earlier this month I got a Nintendo Switch with Super Mario Maker 2. My next addition to this site will be a list of connected levels I made along with a story. I might draw a little map too. At this moment, I have uploaded 3 of 6 levels for this campaign, and I am working on the 4th. If you happen to have SMM2 and are interested, here is my maker ID: 6JR-FP0-HPF

With that ID, you will be able to find the levels before I post the next blog entry as well as my first level that is unrelated to the 6 course series. This game is wonderful since it allows me to focus purely on level design and not worry about art or coding. I will be using SMM2 as a creative outlet until I run out of ideas, and then hopefully I will be able to return to MQII.
